K- and KK-pipecharges contain amongst others nitroglycol and diatomite. K- and KK-pipecharges are used for dimensional stone quarrying and for tasks that usually require very light charging.
The explosive is packed into pipes of polypropylen. The pipes are equipped with expansion sleeves, which enable the pipes to be fixed in the middle of the drillhole and prevent them from being thrown out of the hole. When the pipe is fixed, an air cushion is formed between the pipe and the wall of the hole, that on its own part prevents the rock from unnecessary breaking. K- and KK-pipecharges are available also without the expansion sleeve. The freeze resistance of the pipecharges is good, but they are not totally water resistant, so they cannot be used in particularly wet conditions.
Together with K- and KK-pipecharges a detonating cord has to be used in order to assure continuous detonation. The pipecharges are usually ignited by using a detonating cord, so that several holes are detonated simultaneously. When using this type of method a better rock surface is obtained, than without the detonating cord.
